A pair of KCII area bowlers competed at Tuesday’s class 1A state meet at Maple Lanes Bowling Center in Waterloo and one took home some serious hardware.

Sigourney-Keota’s Brock Alderson capped off his monstrous sophomore season by placing second out of 32 participants. He was able to crack the top eight in the initial three game series with a score of 753. Alderson tallied a 227 first game, followed by a 288 second, and finished with a 238 third to advance to tournament play as the two seed. Each of the eight qualifiers would dual one opponent for a single game with the winner advancing. Alderson defeated seven seeded Cael Bohlen of Charles City in the quarterfinals by a final pin count of 247 to 189. The semifinals could not have been any closer with the sophomore edging three-seeded St. Albert’s Hadyn Piskorski by the slightest of margins 258 to 257. That set up the championship bout with four seeded St. Albert’s Adam Denny where Alderson fell 270-181. The runner-up state finish is the highest ever by a Cobra.

Washington Ethan Zieglowsky also hit the lanes where the senior placed 16th with a three game series score of 637. He recorded a 185 first game, 215 second, and closed the meet with a 237 third.
