The Winfield-Mt. Union boys basketball team saw their season come to an end Tuesday in the district championship round of the Class 1A tournament, falling to the Danville Bears 44-41 at Central Lee. It was a tightly contested affair, with the Wolves holding a slim lead most of the night. WMU was on top 10-7 after the first quarter and 23-22 at half. After an even third frame the Wolves took a one point lead into the final eight minutes. Danville put together their best stretch of the game late, taking a 44-39 lead over Winfield-Mt. Union with just a minute to go and held them off late. In the loss, the Wolves shot 43% overall, 5/15 from three, pulled down 25 rebounds, dished out nine assists and committed 11 turnovers. Jake Edwards led the offense with 13 points, Abram Edwards just missed a double double with nine points with 10 rebounds.
The Wolves end the season at 21-3, following their undefeated North Division Superconference regular season title. Danville advances to the substate round of the 1A playoffs Saturday where they will meet the WACO Warriors for the right to advance to state in Des Moines.
