The Kalona City Council held the first reading for an ordinance to add “No Parking” areas throughout the city during their regular meeting Monday.
The proposed zones for no parking are the east side of all streets in the Harvest Hill subdivision, 5th Street from C to D Avenue on both sides of the street from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m., 9th Street from E to F Avenue plus 130 feet with “No Parking” hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the school year and F Avenue from 6th to 10th Street on both sides of the street from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the school year. The council discussed previously that the restrictions on F Avenue would help give school buses and other larger vehicles enough space for travel. Following comments from the public, the council proposed changing the “No Parking” area on F Avenue to 150 feet east of the 6th Street intersection, 150 feet west of the 9th Street intersection and no parking on either side along 9th Street from 7-9 a.m. and 3-5 p.m. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says that letters will be sent out to affected property owners to notify them of the changes in the ordinance. The council will consider the second reading of the ordinance during their next regular meeting on March 7th.
