A Mount Pleasant man was recently given a jail sentence through a plea agreement.
Court documents show a charge of possession of a firearm by felon, a class D felony, was dismissed for 36-year-old Nathan Russell Beckler who was convicted of driving while barred, an aggravated misdemeanor. Beckler was sentenced to 90 days in jail and to pay a $855 fine. The charge stems from a traffic stop in May of 2021. A Henry County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a tan Lincoln sedan traveling eastbound on Highway 78 from Wayland. The deputy verified the plate did not match the vehicle and then performed a traffic stop. Beckler, who was behind the wheel, admitted that the license plates did not belong to the vehicle. He also admitted to driving while having a barred license status. The trunk of the vehicle contained a rifle, which he was not allowed to possess as he is a convicted felon.
