Members of the Mid-Prairie and Highland speech teams are making final preparations for the district individual contest Saturday.

The Golden Hawks are sending 14 entries to Tri-County High School in Thornburg with students performing solo pieces in acting, musical theatre, storytelling, improvisation, spontaneous speaking, interpretive poetry, dinner speaking, radio news broadcasting, public address and interpretive prose. Mid-Prairie students performing include Diego Ayala, Haydon Bailey, Alex Burnham, Jacob Carrillo, Liv Caskey, Avery Frede, Isadora Goode, Jack Greiner, Logan McClellen, Terra Richardson, Emily Righter, Daniel Rodgers, Avery Slaubaugh and Sam Stacey. Highland is sending nine entries to North Scott High School in Eldridge. The Huskies will be represented by Katy Smith, Kyle Whestine, Brendan Schnoebelen, Emma Nicola, Zoey Robidoux, Allyana Pokorny, Emma Smith, Hanna Rees and Taylor Forbes. 

Students earning a Division I rating at the district contest will advance to compete at the Iowa High School Speech Association state contest at Grinnell High School on Saturday, March 12th. The All-State Festival will take place on March 28th at the University of Northern Iowa.
