Washington County high school students and parents can learn more about earning dual college credit courses during an information session next week.

The Kirkwood Community College Washington County Regional Center is hosting a college credit in high school information night on Tuesday, March 1st at 6:30 p.m. for students in eighth-11th grade and their parents or guardians to learn about over 15 career academies that will be offered during the 2022-2023 school year. Center Director Tera Pickens says the academies fit a variety of students’ interests and post-secondary aspirations, “We have students that are coming to our building that are current high school students and right now they don’t really have plans to attend college after high school. Their immediate goal is to get their high school diploma and they may be taking some time to kind of figure out what’s next. But what’s a wonderful opportunity for those students is they can participate in career academies and earn some industry-recognized credentials that can get them off working with their high school diploma and that credential and getting them into jobs and careers where they’re making much much more than minimum wage.”

Kirkwood’s career academy credits count toward a student’s high school diploma and are easily transferable to colleges and universities, free for Washington County students. The career academy preferred registration deadline is March 15th, and families are asked to RSVP before attending the information night. For more information visit here.
