A special traffic enforcement effort on Highway 218 netted positive results statewide last week.
Iowa State Patrol District 13 Public Resource Officer Jason Marlow is pleased to inform that an “Avenue of the Saints” enforcement effort on February 15th resulted in zero traffic fatalities or crashes on Highway 218 which includes Washington County. Over 600 traffic enforcement contacts were made, as well as multiple motorist assists during the reporting hours. Marlow mentions that speeding continues to be a statewide issue. During the enforcement period 136 citations and 113 warnings were issued for speed. Marlow advises that driving the posted speed limit remains to be very important in motorists’ overall safety. Iowa’s traffic fatalities were at a five-year high in 2021 with 355 deaths and so far this year there have been 27.
