The Riverside City Council approved additions to the Railroad Park project during their regular meeting Monday.

To help make the park more accessible for everyone, the council approved the addition of two ADA-compliant swings for an added cost of $5,286. Along with the swing addition, the council also approved changes to widen east Hickory Street on the east side of the park. Due to the changes in design, Axiom Consultants requested an amended contract that was approved for a $9,900 increase. Other amenities coming to the park include a soft-fall material on the playgrounds, updates to playground equipment, additional parking along River and Hickory streets and a six-foot wide perimeter path with mile markers. The council awarded the project bid of $525,641 to All-American Concrete of West Liberty. The bid was around $15,000 below the engineer’s estimate. . Work has already begun with the removal of ash and evergreen trees along the east side of the park, a maple tree in the northeast corner and a birch tree in a parking lot island completed late last month.City Administrator Christine Yancy says that the anticipated start date for construction is April 15th or sooner, weather permitting.
