Mid-Prairie’s Carter Harmsen continues his climb up the Golden Hawk career scoring list. On a first quarter tip-in during the Hawks class 2A substate final win Saturday over Northeast Goose Lake, Harmsen, a senior, moved into third on the all-time Mid-Prairie scoring list. He passed 1971 graduate Steve Mast and his 1,160 points. Harmsen ended the game with 19 points, leaving him with 1,171 for his career. He trails only 1998 grad Randy Jirsa who is second on the list with 1,433 points and the program’s all-time leading scorer 2005 graduate Travis Kern with 1,503.

With the Hawks win on Saturday, they qualified for the state tournament for the first time since 2010, meaning that all four top scorers in the history of the program will have played in Des Moines during their career. The No. 2, 24-0 Golden Hawks open the state tournament Tuesday against conference rival Monticello. Mid-Prairie beat the Panthers on February 11th for the outright River Valley Conference title 65-50 in Wellman. You can hear all of the action live from Wells Fargo Arena, beginning with the Washington HyVee Pregame Show at 10a.m. and tip-off at 10:30 from Des Moines on all KCII signals.
