Property owners in Washington County are reminded to pay second half real estate and mobile home taxes this month.

Washington County Treasurer Jeff Garrett announces that the second half taxes were due March 1st and must be paid by March 31st to avoid penalty. On April 1st a penalty of 1.5% per month rounded to the nearest whole dollar with a $1 minimum will be attached. In order to reduce wait times and provide the best service possible, Garrett encourages payments to be mailed to the treasurer’s office at Post Office Box 889 in Washington or be placed in the drop box located by the west entrance of the county courthouse. Payments can also be made online at iowatreasurers.org. Statement coupons must accompany payments, and those sent by mail must have a postmark date of March 31st or earlier to avoid penalty. Taxes remaining unpaid on May 31st will be advertised as delinquent and those remaining unpaid on June 20th will be offered at the annual tax sale.
