Washington residents have a week left to file nominations for a special election to fill the Ward 1 city council seat.

Nomination papers are available at the Washington City Clerk’s Office or the Washington County Auditor’s Office for Ward 1 residents to serve the remainder of the term ending in 2023. The petition filing deadline is March 11th for the special election taking place on April 5th. The petition must be accompanied by an affidavit of candidacy and should be filed with the city clerk. Absentee voting can be done in person at the county auditor’s office from March 16th through April 4th and a mailed absentee ballot request must be received by the auditor’s office no later than 5 p.m. March 21st.
