The YMCA of Washington County Water Sharks swim team gears up for a big weekend ahead with the annual state meet located at Marshalltown’s YMCA. 

The Water Sharks are sending 19 individuals to the 2022 Iowa YMCA State Championships with 10 of them having qualified in an individual event and the rest in relays. Swimmers advanced to state by meeting a time requirement at a sectional meet with the most recent one being in Muscatine on February 12th. Two seniors will be competing this weekend in Quinn Wubbena and Carmen Sieren and the rest making the trip include Kevin Flannery, Kate Flannery, Kaden Huber, Tyson Huber, Teague Mayer, Makenzie Messer, Jaylah Redlinger, Cade Drahota, Hannah Dennis, Greta Sieren, Charlotte Sieren, Lane Frank, Clyde Johnson, Logan Westphal, Brennen Westphal, Claire Wubbena, and Blake Baker. The team is coached by Samantha Van Houten. 

The boys will compete at state on Saturday, March 5th and the girls on Sunday, March 6th in Marshalltown.
