Bids for two secondary roads projects were approved by the Washington County Board of Supervisors Tuesday.

County Engineer Jacob Thorius shared that bids went well for a Portland cement concrete overlay of about one-third of a mile of Lexington Boulevard northwest from the Washington city limits. The board accepted a bid of about $151,832 from Jones Contracting Corp. Thorius informed that one bid was received for a hot mix asphalt paved shoulder project on Wayland Road from 320th Street south approximately two miles. The board accepted a bid of about $567,316 from Norris Asphalt Paving Co., LC. Thorius expressed some frustration at the bid amount, and stated that he will work with the contractor to shave off some of the cost. He also mentioned that a state Traffic Safety Improvement Program grant of $245,000 they received last year will cover part of the project to pave the shoulders with a safety edge and edge line rumble strips. Eichelberger Milling, Inc. located on Wayland Road is also paying for $55,000 of the cost for the contractor to pave a portion of their entrances.
