The KCII listening area will be represented in Des Moines this week at the Iowa High School Athletic Association boys state basketball tournament. The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks will be part of the field for the class 2A tournament. Mid-Prairie moved on to state with a 74-43 substate win over Northeast Goose Lake at Muscatine High School on February 26th. The Golden Hawks are ranked No. 2 in class 2A in the final poll from the Associated Press. They enter the tournament with a 24-0 overall record, the best start to a season in program history.
Mid-Prairie will take on fellow River Valley Conference rival Monticello in the quarterfinals to open the tournament Tuesday. The district has canceled class Tuesday and will make up the day April 15th. There will also be no early out Wednesday, March 9th.
