It was a busy weekend at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines for the Washington archery teams when they competed in the 2022 Iowa National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) state tournament.
The Demon high school team had a top ten finish placing 10th out of 28 in the bullseye competition with a team score of 3307. Junior Jonathan Moore paced the team in sixth out of 391 boys with a score of 290 and 22 bullseyes. Lane Frana placed 17th with 287 and 19 bullseyes. The top Demon girl was Allison Rees with a 282 and 17 bullseyes to rank 27th out of 350 high school girls and Hayden Janecek recorded a 279 with 14 bullseyes to place 44th. The 3D competition had Washington also in 10th out of 21 squads with 1629. Lane Frana was 28th out of 174 with a 278, Levi Applegate managed a 274, and Tyler Alderton recorded a 271.
The Demon middle schoolers were the headliners besting the whole field of 29 teams in the bullseye event with a winning score of 3261. Ethan Hotchkiss finished third out of 443 middle school boys with a 285 and 17 bullseyes while Johannah Halvorson was fifth out of 328 girls with a 283 and 14 tens. The 3D competition was also kind to them placing second out of 20 teams with 1606. Gabrielle Andrew and Teage Pepper each scored a 272. The elementary archers just competed in the bullseye competition at state and placed seventh out of 10 with a 2886 score. Hunter Barnes was 12th out of 172 boys with a 267 and 12 tens.
