maplesyrup

A sweet treat awaits those looking for an adventure in the Kalona area this spring. The Kalona Chamber of Commerce is offering a special By-Ways Tour all about maple syrup. Join the tour to observe the process of distilling maple syrup from drip to finish on an Amish Farm. Kalona Chamber Director Tonia Poole shares details of the tour. “This one you get to watch the syrup dripping from the tree. The Amish family will show you where they’ve got the stove going and you can watch it cook down right there. They explain what’s going on. They’ve got lots of great information. It’s a great time to learn something new. Because we have a lot of requests for traditional home-cooked meals, we’re also offering a meal at Hearth-N-Home. A traditional Mennonite meal is provided.”

The tour is $15 for youth and $25 for adults and will take place from 1-2:30 p.m. An added meal option is available at $40 for adults and $20 for youth from noon to 2:30 p.m. The tour dates are weather dependent, but are planned for early March. Visit the Kalona Chamber of Commerce website for specific tour dates and to register.
