Isabelle Duvall represented Mid-Prairie Fine Arts on a bigger stage last month. The Mid-Prairie freshman was named to the University of Iowa Honor Band. An active band member since fifth grade, she plays both the tuba and bass trombone, her favorite being the tuba. She talked with KCII News about her musical influences, “I have always been interested in music, it’s something that has been a passion of mine as long as I can remember. My family has been a big part of my music career, they’ve supported me along the way.”
Selection into the honor band was based on application. The total experience was two days of rehearsals culminating in a concert at the Voxman Music Building on the university campus. Duvall chronicled the experience, “We had a two day rehearsal. Saturday, February 19th we practiced the whole day. February the 20th we had our concert. The other musicians were from all across Iowa with some from Illinois and South Dakota. It was very inspiring to play with them. We had so much fun, it was always a blast getting to talk to the professors there and they had so much valuable information for me to continue my music career.”
Duvall says that she learned a lot from the instructors including proper posture while playing, breathing exercises and tone. Duvall is also a member of the Mid-Prairie jazz band and Washington Municipal Band.
