The public can learn about largely unknown local figures this Women’s History Month from a Washington historian next week.
The local chapter of the American Association of University Women and the Washington Public Library is sponsoring a “Women of Washington County” program with Mike Zahs on Thursday, March 17th. Zahs tells KCII that this program will look beyond Washington County’s well-known women and will range from those alive in 1835 to someone who passed away just this January, “I think you can be very, very important and not at all famous and so that’s kind of what I’m heading for is people that have done things that they’re not famous for. I also have picked women from almost every part of the county. It’s not just Washington women, I have people from places that people didn’t even know were places.”
The program is free to attend and will last approximately an hour. It will begin at 7 p.m. at the library.
