precinct-map-3-11-22

Updated map as of March 7th.

The Washington County Board of Supervisors and City of Kalona are amending their election voting precincts as part of the once every decade redistricting, following guidance from the Secretary of State’s Office.

Deputy County Auditor Sue Meeks informed the supervisors Tuesday that the state is asking them to change the Kalona precinct to now include the former Shiloh property that was annexed, and the new proposed map will now extend the boundary south to 140th Street and east to Quince Avenue. This now makes Kalona’s precinct geographically larger and Richmond’s smaller, but still keeps the population requirements of each precinct below 3,500 people. Meeks mentioned that this change does not affect where Supervisor Bob Yoder resides in regards to his district, and Richmond remains to have its own precinct, a change from the previous decade. The board approved an amended election precincts agreement between the county’s temporary redistricting commission and the City of Kalona, and a letter of agreement between Kalona and the supervisors. They also approved a first reading of an ordinance that amends one previously signed, and a second reading will be held on March 15th. The Kalona City Council has a public hearing set for March 21st to modify their election precinct to include the annexed property.
