Another memorable season on the hardwood translated to a lot of postseason awards for the Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ basketball team with six players named all conference by the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division.
The honors were headlined by juniors Bradie Buffington and Keetyn Townsley being selected to the first team. Buffington cleaned up in the paint by finishing top three in the league in points and rebounds including her 227 total boards topping the division. The 5’11’’ post player recorded 15 points and 9.5 rebounds a game while shooting 49% from the floor. Townsley had the third most steals in the division with 82, collected 9.6 points a night, and dished out 50 assists. Jobey Malone and Melina Oepping were named to the second team. Malone averaged 8.8 points, 5.5 boards, and connected on 45% of her shots. Oepping had the fifth most assists in the league with 65, fourth in rebounds with 208, and she recorded 7.7 points an outing. Honorable mention selections went to Keely Malone and Carlee Sloan. Malone tops the league in assists with 119 and registered eight points a game while Sloan collected 23 steals and shot 41% from the floor.
WMU finished the campaign 19-5 and second in the north with a 14-2 conference mark.
