A pair of local organizations are taking steps offered at the state level to save themselves and taxpayers money. The Washington County Emergency Management Agency and City of Riverside have participated in Auditor Rob Sand’s Public Innovations and Efficiencies (PIE) program to maximize public dollars. The office of the Auditor has made a list of ideas, tools and cost cutting concepts, or “PIE recipes” available to local organizations. These ideas include but are not limited to, energy saving tips for facilities, paper consumption, HVAC, water usage, mental health issues and more. After the success in its first two years, the program has been implemented by officials in other states. Organizations that participate are encouraged to submit their savings and progress to the Auditor’s office electronically. For more information visit auditor.iowa.gov.
