Monetary decisions dominated new business in the March 7th meeting of the Kalona City Council. It was decided that due to current economic hardships, a 5% inflationary wage adjustment for the remainder of fiscal year 2022 would begin with the next payroll period to offset trends. American Rescue Plan Act premium pay for essential workers was also discussed with approval of a one-time payment for all current full-time staff of $1,000 and a one-time $500 payment to Kalona Building Inspector Jim Pope.
