Friday is the deadline for candidates filing for state or federal office in the June 7th primary election in Iowa.
As new congressional and state legislative districts have been drawn this year, all of Washington County will sit within one state senate and house district for the primary and general elections. As of Wednesday there are no contested races for the Democratic and Republican nominations for Senate District 46 which besides Washington includes all of Iowa and much of Johnson counties. The two current senators that reside in this newly drawn district, Republican Dawn Driscoll of Williamsburg and Democrat Kevin Kinney of Oxford have both filed. House District 92 includes all of Washington County and a southern portion of Johnson County. Two candidates are running for the Republican nomination, Heather Hora and Jaron Rosien of Washington. One candidate has filed for the Democratic nomination, Ty Bopp of Riverside.
Candidates have until 5 p.m. March 25th to file for county office in the primary. Districts 3 and 5 on the Washington County Board of Supervisors will be on the ballot, as well as County Attorney, Recorder, and Treasurer.
