Property owners have over a week left to pay their second half real estate or mobile home taxes before a penalty is applied.

Washington County Treasurer Jeff Garrett reminds that second half property taxes were due March 1st, and on April 1st a penalty of 1.5% per month rounded to the nearest whole dollar with a $1 minimum will attach to those unpaid. Taxes remaining unpaid on May 31st will be advertised as delinquent and those remaining unpaid on June 20th will be offered at the annual tax sale. In order to reduce wait times and provide the best service possible, Garrett encourages payments be mailed to the county treasurer’s office, placed in the drop box located by the west door of the courthouse, or paid online at iowatreasurers.org. Statement coupons must accompany payments, and payments sent by mail must have a U.S. Postal Service postmark date of March 31st or earlier to avoid penalty.
