Proceedings moved forward Tuesday in the murder trials of two southeast Iowa teens. Jeremy Everett Goodale and Willard Noble Chaiden Miller, both 16-years-old, are charged with murder in the death of Fairfield High School Spanish teacher Nohema Graber. Earlier this month, Goodale’s defense had filed a motion to bar the public and media from a hearing that attempted to move the trial to juvenile court. Judge Shawn Showers ruled Tuesday that the hearings for both Goodale and Miller would be open to the media and public. Goodale’s trial has been scheduled for August 23rd and Miller’s November 1st.

Showers also unsealed search warrant documents in the case that show a friend of Goodale’s shared with authorities Goodale’s Snapchat messages that indicated the two defendants were involved in the “planning, execution and disposal of evidence”. The messages also allegedly described the location of the victim’s body, car, how the body was disposed of and how evidence was concealed. The files also detailed the murder weapon as a baseball bat. Video reviewed by police in the case shows Graber’s car leaving Fairfield High School and entering the park at roughly 4p.m. November 2nd. The vehicle left the park 42 minutes later, followed by a pickup. A witness also reported having seen a male pushing a wheelbarrow toward the park around midnight on November 2nd. Miller admitted during an interview with law enforcement that he provided a wheelbarrow from his home.

A hearing to decide whether Goodale and Miller will be tried in juvenile court will be held Thursday.
