Following the rejection of a March 1st bond referendum in the Mid-Prairie School District, the School Board and staff are reviewing possible paths forward for projects deemed a priority. At Monday’s meeting, Superintendent Mark Schneider reported that initial work has been done to review the district’s needs for educational space and to handle safety concerns in a scaled back proposal from the referendum. The conversations have focused on improvements needed at the Middle School and East Elementary. In the failed referendum, projects at those locations included but were not limited to: parking lot improvements, classroom additions, gymnasium and locker room additions, and interior renovations.

Schneider also brought a list of summer projects to the board that he compiled with the lead building custodians at each facility. They included: Middle School locker room refurbishment at an estimated cost of $59,000, new flooring in four second grade classrooms and offices at East Elementary at an estimated cost of $30,000, five new cafeteria tables at West Elementary at an estimated cost of $33,000 and new fire panels at both elementaries at an estimated cost of $150,000. These four projects were approved unanimously by the board. The total price tag for the list of projects is $485,000.
