It was a windy start to the outdoor track season on Friday with Washington hosting the Steve Roth Relays at Case Field and five other area boys teams participated in the annual event.
Columbus Community was the headliner for the second time on the week by running away with the class C title with 131 points compared to second place Danville with 94. Kaden Amigon was a two-time champ on the evening winning the 100m (12.18) and 200m (24.43) while finishing second in the long jump (18’7.5’’). Isaac Acosta was the other Wildcat champion by placing first in the 1600m (5:10). Third place team finish belonged to Winfield-Mt. Union with 93 points and they crowned four victors including the 4x800m (9:34), the distance medley (4:11), Gabe Hemsworth in the 400m hurdles (1:02), and Cam Buffington in the long jump (19’9’’). WACO finished fourth with 76 points and Highland was seventh out of nine with 40 points. Gold events for the Warriors included Braden Spain in the 400m (53.93) and high jump (5’10’’), Simeon Reichenbach in the 110m hurdles (16.27), and the shuttle hurdle relay (1:07). The Huskies’ Devin Lovetinsky had the best heave in the shot put (40’9.5’’).
The Mid-Prairie boys finished second in the class B team standings with 140 points, 10 away from champion Mediapolis. Cain Brown did a lot of damage winning the 110m hurdles (16.97) and long jump (19’4.5’’). Other first place showings included Thaddeus Shetler in the 1600m (4:54), Carter Harmsen in the discus (128’1’’), the 4x800m (9:25), shuttle hurdle relay (1:11), and distance medley relay (3:52). In the class A division Washington was fourth out of eight with 78 points compared to Iowa City High winning with 161. Elijah Morris crossed the finish line first in the 200m (23.64) and 400m (51.0) while Lance Sobaski won the 3200m (10:00).
