Thursday, 50-year-old Bradley Earl Ewart of Wapello appeared in United States District Court on two counts of failure to file federal income tax returns for calendar years 2016 and 2018. Ewart has been the owner and operator of Louisa County Millwright, LLC since approximately 2004. During proceedings he acknowledged that he received taxable income from this business during calendar years 2015 through 2018 in amounts that exceeded the minimum required to make a tax filing necessary. At the hearing he admitted he knew he was required to file returns in 2015, ‘16, ‘17, and ‘18 and that he willfully failed to do so. He also admitted that he did not file returns from 2004 through 2014.
Each count carries a maximum sentence of one year in prison, a maximum fine of $25,000 or both. Ewart is responsible for paying his tax liability in full and $25 per count special assessment to the Crime Victims’ Fund. He is scheduled to be sentenced this July.
