A Fairfield man was recently sentenced to serve up to two years in prison for driving while barred as a habitual offender in both Washington and Jefferson counties.
Court documents show 25-year-old Mason Kendall Simons pleaded guilty to the aggravated misdemeanor charge for cases in each county, as well as serious misdemeanors for fourth-degree criminal mischief in Washington County and eluding in Jefferson County. Simons must pay pecuniary damages, fines totaling $2,570 plus a 15% criminal services surcharge, and Category B restitution. He was originally charged with second-degree theft, a class D felony, for the Washington County incident that occurred on March 11, 2021. Simons was driving home with someone that he was the protected party of a no contact order. An argument took place and he and the owner of the vehicle both exited at 335th Street and Germanville Road. Simons broke the passenger side window of the vehicle and then entered it and drove away. The criminal complaint stated that he was barred from driving 14 times. The Jefferson County incident occurred on February 12th of this year. Law enforcement attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on Simons for fraudulent license plates when he fled and was apprehended after a short pursuit.
