It was a split for the Mid-Prairie boys and girls golf teams on Monday as they opened the season against rival Regina. The Golden Hawk girls came out on fire, despite the cold, windy weather, rolling through Regina 225 to 262. That team total is 27 shots better than the Hawks shot in last year’s opener. Mid-Prairie swept the hardware with sophomore Gabi Robertson winning meet medalist with a round of 54 and junior Alexa Huber runner-up with a 55. Robertson and Huber talked after the meet about their days. “We wanted to hit it well and farther. Beat our scores from last year. It was definitely very cold, my hands were frozen by the end. I was ready to be done. It was cold and windy. We’re going to work on short game, putting and chipping. As a team we did really well for our first meet. Last year we did pretty good, but this seems like a great start.”
Other scores for the Hawks included Madelyn Bender at 57, Madi Davidson and Madison Witthoft at 59 and Elliott Debler at 60.
The Mid-Prairie boys were beaten at Brown Deer Golf Course Monday by the Regals 187-207. Regina swept the hardware with Andrew Triplett scoring medalist honors with a 42 and Mikey Takacs medalist runner-up as a 43. The Golden Hawks were led individually by Warren Scarff’s 47. Other Golden Hawk scores included Ben Mattes at 50, Drew Schlabaugh with 52, Ian Schmidt at 58 and Carson Pence 61.
The Mid-Prairie boys and girls golf teams will be in action at the Kalona Golf Course Thursday when they host Washington and Columbus.
