Three area boys’ track teams traveled south to West Burlington on Monday for a meet with Washington headlining the action.
The Demons placed second out of six in the large school division with 141 points, only behind Mount Pleasant’s 160. They had six event champions on the evening including Elijah Morris winning the 100m (11.19) and 400m (50.75) and Brayden Hartman cleaning house in the field events claiming gold in the discus (137’6’’) and shot put (48’7.5’’). The 3200m run was full of points for the orange and black with Lance Sobaski claiming first (9:53), Micah Rees was second (10:38), and William Kennedy was third (11:51). The final event champion was the distance medley relay (4:00) of Lucas Kroll, Lincoln Hanson, Alec Ulin, and Micah Rees.
Winfield-Mt. Union was fourth out of six in the small class division with 67 points and Mediapolis won with 173. Gabe Hemsworth took home gold in the 400m hurdles (1:01) and the 4x800m (9:07) of Noah Sparrow, Kohlby Newsom, Lane Scorpil, and Hemsworth was second.
Highland tallied 52 points to manage fifth. Devin Lovetinsky was second in the discus (115’8’’) and third in the shot put (40’6’’). The sprint medley relay was second (1:46) and this team consisted of Tyler Thompson, Jacob Hill, Logan Bonebrake, and Connor Grinstead.
