The 2022 Ruritan Relays in Packwood on Monday was all about the WACO boys’ track team when the Warriors ran away with their first meet title of the season.
WACO took care of the class 1 team rankings placing first out of five with 182 points, 17 more than second place Cardinal. The Warriors crowned seven event champions including individuals of Simeon Reichenbach in the 110m hurdles (15.92), Zach Schmitz in the 400m hurdles (1:06), Braden Spain in the high jump (5’10’’), and Jonah Clark in the shot put (40’3’’). Points started to rack up in the relays as well with the 4x100m (48.75), 4x200m (1:42), and shuttle hurdle (1:07) all coming out on top.
Lone Tree and Sigourney also competed with the Lions placing fourth in the class 2 rankings with 123 points and Sigourney was fifth with 53. Van Buren won the division with 134. Lone Tree’s Ethan Willoz was a two-time champion in the 110m hurdles (19.16) and 400m hurdles (1:06). Taylor Alberhasky was the first to cross the finish line in the 1600m (4:53) and the shuttle hurdle relay also won (1:12). Sigourney managed two event titles including Karson Weber in the 100m (12.79) and Jake Moore in the 200m (23.85).
