It was an offensive outburst for the Washington boys’ soccer team on opening night when they scored early and often on Thursday to down Highland 14-0.
Six minutes into the season, Kevin Marcelino found the back of the net at the Washington Wellness Park and it didn’t take long for the rest of the team to follow suit. No more than five minutes passed between every goal from there on out and seven players found the back of the net in the halftime mercy-rule victory. Erick Ortez Jr. and Fredy Aguilar each recorded hat tricks to lead the offense while Emre Akgul, Manny Raymundo, and Angel Mata had a pair of goals. Marcelino and Quentin Howard rounded out the scoring for the high flying Demons. Seven of the goals were assisted with Raymundo having three of them. The defense was stout at the other end by not allowing a Huskie shot on goal.
Demon Head Coach Sally Hart tells KCII Sports everything was clicking last night. “I was really impressed with how our team moved the ball throughout the field. They did a nice job of making those triangles that we talk about in practice. We had a lot of goals, but we also had a lot of assists and that speaks to what we have been working on and playing as a unit.”
Washington starts up the campaign 1-0 and they have their conference opener against Mount Pleasant on Thursday. Highland is 0-1 and they host Sigourney-Keota on Monday.
