Just after midnight Friday morning, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office executed a vehicle stop near the intersection of Highway 218 and 135th Street on a vehicle with Florida license plates. The responding officer reported the vehicle to have been traveling at speeds of up to 100 mph and during the stop an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle with six occupants inside, five of which were children ages two to eight years old. Three bags of dispensary marijuana were located in a backpack in the vehicle. The suspect was transported to the Washington County Jail where during a search in the facility he was found to have two more bags of marijuana on his person.

Authorities arrested 30-year-old Rayford Lavert Shearer of Cedar Rapids, for five counts of Felony Child Endangerment, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Contraband in a Correctional Facility, Driving Under Suspension (x9), Speeding at 100 mph in a 65mph zone and OWI first offense. He remains in custody at the Washington County Jail. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
