“All the world is a stage,” but the spotlight this weekend will be on Mid-Prairie High School where the drama department will present their interpretation of the Shakespeare classic “As You Like It.” Despite the show’s Elizabethan roots, the rendition in Wellman this weekend will be set in 1960’s America. The production involves an estimated 30 members of the student body and faculty. The crew has been working on the performance since auditions were held in early February. Recently, cast and crew spoke with KCII news about the plot for the show and the unique challenges it has presented. “As you like it is a play that centers around Rosalind and her cousin Celia and Orlando. Rosalind and Orlando fall in love. Then Duke Frederick banishes them all. Celia and Rosalind, being women, can’t go alone as they are so Rosalind dresses herself as a man. Rosalind kind of tries to win over Orlando as a man. With this show, the verbiage is still kind of ‘old-timey’, but we set it in the 1960s so there is a different view on it. It’s been fun so far and it’s been a cool challenge. It really works with this show and the costuming is really fun.”

Performances will be at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Mid-Prairie High School Cafetorium. For more information about tickets contact the High School Office or email nsilbaugh@mphawks.org
