It will be a rare boy/girl doubleheader at the Washington Wellness Park this evening with the Demon soccer teams opening Southeast Conference play against Mount Pleasant.

The Demon girls are off to a strong 3-0 start including a 4-1 victory over Oskaloosa on Monday that marks the only goal given up on the season. The offense has been jump started by the one-two punch of Greta Rothe and Giselle Marcelino. The duo have combined for 11 of the team’s 13 goals with Rothe registering six and Marcelino with five. Elyse Hunt has nine saves in the net. Mount Pleasant is 2-0 and they defeated Columbus 2-1 on Monday. Elly Manning has been their main threat with six goals. These two programs have split the last four meetings including a pair of one goal games in 2021.

The Washington boys are 1-0 after an emphatic 14-0 triumph over Highland last week. Seven players scored in the offensive barrage led by hat tricks from Erick Ortez Jr. and Fredy Aguilar. The Panthers sit at 0-1 after being blanked 6-0 by Columbus. They were 2-13 last spring with the Demons winning both meetings.

The boys’ game will kickoff at 4 p.m. with the girls to follow in Washington.
