A twin bill between a pair of KCII area schools is scheduled for Wellman Thursday afternoon when the Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union Wildcat boys and girls soccer teams make the trip to take on the Hawks. The Mid-Prairie boys are 1-0 on the year after a 3-1 win at home on Tuesday against Williamsburg with Owen Trimpe scoring twice and Grady Gingerich supplying the other goal. Mid-Prairie never trailed in the match and led 3-0 at half, putting the pressure on the Raiders all night with 15 shots on goal. Defensively, Justice Jones had seven saves on the back line.

Columbus was also a big winner in their opener 6-0, blasting Mount Pleasant. The Wildcats held a commanding 5-0 lead at half. Columbus has won four of the last six in this series, with Mid-Prairie winning the last two including a 6-2 win a season ago.

In the girls contest, both teams are in search of their first win. Mid-Prairie is 0-1 on the year after a 1-0 loss to Williamsburg on the road last week. The Golden Hawks were unable to get on the board against the Raiders despite five shots on goal. Ainsley Lueck finished with six saves as the Mid-Prairie keeper. Columbus is 0-3 with losses to Mount Pleasant, Central Lee and Washington so far this year. The ‘Cats have been outscored 15-1 through their first three matches. Their most recent contest was a 2-1 loss to Mt. Pleasant Monday. Samarah Garza had the Wildcats lone goal and Alynna Leos was incredible between the pipes with 20 saves. Mid-Prairie has won all 12 all-time meetings between the girls programs including two wins last year by a combined 17-0 score including a 10-0 playoff victory. The girls game gets underway at 5p.m. with the boys match to follow at the Wellman Rotary Soccer Fields.
