The Iowa Supreme Court denied a request Thursday from the teenagers charged with the murder of Fairfield teacher Nohema Graber.

Sixteen-year-old Willard Noble Chaiden Miller and 17-year-old Jeremy Everett Goodale each filed an application to the supreme court for review of the district court’s March 22nd order denying to exclude the public from a hearing to consider moving their cases to juvenile court. Miller also sought review of a few other denial motions from the district court. The State filed a resistance, and upon consideration the supreme court ordered Miller and Goodale’s applications be denied.

The order also mentions the defendants filed a motion to seal an attachment, contending it contains confidential information and information sealed by the district court. In reviewing the district court docket, the court notes there is no order sealing this document. The court ordered that within seven days of Thursday’s order Miller and Goodale must file a detailed statement in support of the motion to seal attachment, and the State may file a response within three days after filing the appellant’s statement.

Jefferson County Attorney Chauncey Moulding tells KCII he is pleased that these cases are back in the district court’s jurisdiction, and he expects them to proceed forward without further undue delay. Miller and Goodale are charged with first-degree murder, a class A felony, and conspiracy to commit the murder, a class C felony. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
