Bleeding orange and black will continue for Washington’s Lance Sobaski, as the senior signed his letter of intent this week to run cross country and track at Wartburg College next year.
Sobaski joins a Knight program full of tradition that is fresh off of a 2021 outdoor track national championship at the NCAA Division III level and the cross country team was ranked number one for much of last fall. He tells KCII Sports why living in Waverly and attending Wartburg seemed like the right fit. “It gave me that home feeling and I feel like I belong when I go there. The whole atmosphere is contagious and it feels like a family. The coach and his style sold me and I can’t wait to be a part of it.”
Sobaski was a workhorse throughout his high school career and qualified for state cross country three times including placing eighth this past season. Missing out on a sophomore track season, he more than made up for it as a junior by running in three events at state and has picked up right where he left off this year including breaking the 800m school record on Tuesday.
The senior plans to major in biology this fall.
