Wednesday, March 23rd, the Fairfield Police Department responded to the Jefferson County Hospital to take the report of an individual who had suffered a violent assault. Jefferson County Attorney Chauncey Moulding states the person was admitted into care with bruising to his face, chest, arms and back, shoe prints on his back, and injuries that appeared to be consistent with being shot by an air-soft gun multiple times at close range. The victim stated they had been assaulted by numerous individuals after being lured to a residence under false pretenses. The victim reported that several items including his wallet and phone had been stolen during the incident.
Through an investigation authorities acquired a cell phone which had been used to document the incident with multiple videos showing individuals, some of them juveniles, assaulting the victim at the residence. Officers have charged four individuals and several juveniles with the possibility of additional defendants in the future.
Steven James Lemke, Hannah Nicole Moffit, and Brayton Wayne Warren of Fairfield and Heaven Leigh Charbonneau of Ottumwa were all charged with one count of willful injury resulting in bodily injury, and one count of conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony, both class D felonies. Warren was also charged with second-degree robbery, a class C felony. He was already on probation for eluding and drug charges.
