The Mid-Prairie boys and girls soccer teams broke out the brooms Friday night in Wellman, sweeping away River Valley Conference rival Monticello in a pair of shut outs. The Golden Hawk girls opened the night with a 7-0 win. They led 4-0 at the break. Esther Hughes had five goals to lead the Mid-Prairie offense. She spoke after the match about the offense. “I feel like since last year we have gotten a lot better at passing. We’re connecting a lot more passes and seeing 1-2s and through balls that we weren’t seeing last year. On defense Evelyn (Gerber) is our rock, center back, she really helps our defense.”
Julia Boller and Kailtin Martin each added a goal. They are 2-1 on the year and host Solon Monday.
In the nightcap, the Golden Hawk boys were a 5-0 winner. They led 1-0 at the break and then opened things up in the second half scoring four times. Gunnar Gingerich had two goals, Owen Trimpe, Alex Bean and Tucker Miller each tallied once. Trimpe added a pair of assists Braden Hartley and Noah Ford each had one helper. Andrew Kaufman turned in the clean sheet in goal with four saves. With the win, Mid-Prairie is now 3-0, they will meet Tipton on the road Tuesday.
