A Wayland woman was recently convicted of possessing contraband in the Washington County Jail.

Through a plea agreement a five-year prison sentence was suspended for 28-year-old Nikita Renee Jones with her placed on five years probation. Jones is ordered to a residential correctional facility for 365 days or until maximum benefit is achieved, pay a $1,025 fine plus applicable surcharges, and be screened for mental health court. This sentence shall run concurrently with a probation period for a class D felony identity theft conviction, and consecutively with a one-year jail sentence for a conviction of absence from custody, a serious misdemeanor. The class D felony contraband offense stemmed from a December 14th, 2021 incident during which Jones was seen on video surveillance taking puffs from a vape pen, and dropping it onto the floor when moving to another jail cell.
