One of the longest running traditions of the spring will be back on the links this afternoon in Kalona when the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys host their annual 18-hole Golden Hawk Invitational. Mid-Prairie was on the course in Kalona Monday when they dropped a River Valley Conference dual to the Tipton Tigers by a 163-218 score. They were led by Warren Scarff’s round of 47 for nine holes. On the season, Mid-Prairie is shooting a team average of 217 in nine-hole meets with a team best of 207 so far. This will be their first 18-hole round of the year. Individually, Mid-Prairie is led by Drew Schlabaugh’s 51 average, followed by Scarff at 53, Ian Schmidt at 55, Ben Mattes at 56, Carson Pence at 66 and Blake Peck 73.

The Washington Demons will also be in Kalona today. The Demons were last in action at Keokuk Monday where they were tournament winners over conference rivals Fairfield, Mt. Pleasant, Keokuk and Fort Madison with their team score of 163, led by Roman Roth and Grant Sobaski’s 39s. On the season Washington is averaging 175 as a team score across nine-holes with Monday’s 163 the low mark for the year. The Demons have yet to play an 18-hole tournament. Individually, they are led by Roth’s 42 average. Other averages for the Demons include Sobaski at 47, Teague Mayer, Isaac Vetter and Luke Beenblossom with 48 and John Prochaska 50. The Demons won a meet earlier this season at Kalona, beating the Golden Hawks and Columbus Wildcats in a triangular.

Highland will also be in Kalona Tuesday. The Huskies are undefeated in a pair of duals so far this year, beating Hillcrest Academy by two shots last week and topping Lone Tree last night 197-221. In Monday’s dual, Highland was led by Peyton Yeggy with a 44. Colton Sypherd shot 48, Chase Schultz 52, Kaige Vonnahme 53, Trevor McFarland 54 and Luke Miller 56. As a team this year, Highland is shooting a 196 average per nine holes, led by Yeggy’s 45. Other averages include Schultz 49, Sypherd 50, Vonnahme 55, McFarland 58 and Miller 64.

Joining those three area teams in Kalona today will be Durant, Mount Vernon, North Cedar, Iowa City Regina, West Branch, West Liberty and Wilton. Tee time is set for 12:30 with action continuing the rest of the day at the Kalona Golf Course.
