The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks girls soccer team dropped a match at home for the first time this season, falling to No. 14 in class 1A Solon 4-0 in Wellman. Things were tight early, with the Spartans capitalizing for the only goal of the first half 14 minutes into the match and taking a 1-0 lead into the break. In the second half, Solon began to wear down the Hawks, who were dealing with some absences and injuries, pulling away from Mid-Prairie with three goals after intermission. Following the match, Golden Hawk head coach Justin Barthelman talked about his team’s play and what they will take away from the loss. “I thought we played well. We were short on numbers, didn’t have a lot of subs. We looked like we were pretty gassed but our girls kept fighting. We were able to play possession pretty well when we got the ball. Solon is a pretty good possession team. They’re big, physical, good at winning balls in the air and 50/50 stuff. We know coming in we are going to have to be aggressive and play physical. First half especially we played pretty tough.”
Solon moves to 4-1 on the season, the Golden Hawks fall to .500 at 2-2 and will be back on the pitch Tuesday at Tipton.
