It was a banner night for area schools at the Wapello Indian Relays Tuesday. The Washington Demon boys came to the meet and dominated, winning the team title with a score of 149 points. The Demons had an impressive seven event championships on the night. Brayden Hartman took the title in the shot put with a throw of 52’2″. Kasen Bailey cleared 6’0 to win the high jump. Lance Sobaski was twice an individual champion, winning the 400 in 53.07 seconds and the mile in 4:31.60. Quinn Wubbena won the 400 hurdles in 59 seconds. The Demon sprint medley team of Ethan Patterson, Lucas Kroll, Jacob Miller and Alec Ulin won gold in 1:41.29. The Washington shuttle hurdle team of Austin Rebling, James Strabala, Tayven Stuart and Ethan Zieglowsky was also best on the track in 1:09.44. Other top finishes for the Demons included second for Rebling and third for Zieglowsky in the 110 hurdles, second for Hartman in the discus, second for the 4×800 team of Micah Rees, Drew Horak, Tyler Alderton and Wubbena and third for the 4×400 team of Cameron Vongpanya, Logan McDole, Evan Van Der Molen and Wubbena.

The Mid-Prairie boys were team runners-up with their score of 141 points. Mid-Prairie had four championship events on the night with Thaddeus Shetler winning the 800 in 2:08.23. The 4×200 team of Tyler Helmuth, Cain Brown, Will Cavanagh and Carter Harmsen winning in 1:34.44. A title for the 4×400 team of Cavanagh, Jackson Gehman, Shetler and Brown in 3:44.78 and a championship for the 4×800 team of Blake Creed, Shetler, Jayse Yoder and Robert Nagy in 9:02.58. Runner-up finishes included Emmett Swartzentruber in the two mile, the 4×100 team of Helmuth, Brown, Cavanagh and Harmsen, the sprint medley team of Helmuth, Jarron Thomas, Gehman and Cavanagh and Gehman in the long jump. Gehman was also third in the 400, Yoder was third in the mile and the distance medley team of Kaden Meader Cobi Hershberger, Shetler and Yoder were third.

Winfield-Mt. Union finished was seventh of 10 teams with 50 points. Cam Buffington was the lone Wolves champion, winning the long jump clearing 19’8″. Gabe Hemsworth was third in the 400 hurdles and was a part of the third place 4×800 team along with Noah Sparrow, Lane Scorpil and Kohlby Newsom.
