Three KCII area schools were part of the field of 10 that braved the windy conditions Tuesday at the Kalona Golf Course for the annual 18-hole Golden Hawk Invitational Tournament. The Washington Demons finished as team runners-up with their overall score of 372. West Branch took the team title with a 323. Roman Roth led the Demons with a third place finish on a round of 77. Other Washington scores included Teague Mayer 97, Luke Beenblossom 98, John Prochaska 100, Isaac Vetter 101, and Grant Sobaski 105. After the meet, Demon head coach Collin Stark talked about the team’s day and what keyed Roth’s round. “Tough conditions on the course today. This was our first 18-hole meet of the year and I know that certain guys wanted lower scores. Roman (Roth) played extremely well today. We’ll continue to hopefully build off of this. Now this is the score that we have to beat for upcoming 18-hole meets, getting ourselves prepared for going into the postseason.”
Mid-Prairie was seventh at their home event with a 392, led by Warren Scarff’s 88, finishing in 10th place individually. Other Golden Hawk scores included Drew Schlabaugh 95, Ben Mattes 98, Ian Schmidt 11 and Carson Pence 123.
