The Washington County Communications Center received a call just after 5 a.m. Wednesday from a neighbor who reported the home at 2209 325th Street in rural Wayland on fire. When local fire departments arrived on scene they found the south side of the structure was burning and the home was full of smoke. Wayland Fire Chief Mat Leichty tells KCII crews were on scene for two hours working to control the blaze, including cutting holes in the roof for better access, ventilating the area and putting out hot spots. The 92-year-old homeowner was uninjured. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time. Water and smoke damage to the home was reported as very extensive. Departments serving on scene included Wayland, Washington and Brighton Fire, Washington County Ambulance Service and Sheriff’s Office, and Access Energy. The Red Cross was notified.
