The outcome was never in doubt on a blustery day in Wellman as the No. 1 ranked Mid-Prairie boys soccer team hammered the Huskies from Cedar Valley Christian 8-0 Thursday. Mid-Prairie scored four times in each half. Alex Bean got things started with a ninth minute goal on an Owen Trimpe assist. Six minutes later it was Jack Pennington’s turn on a Braden Hartley assist. In the 21st minute Bean scored for a second time, this one on a finish from a Gunnar Gingerich assist. Pennington’s second goal, this one unassisted took the Hawks into half with the four goal lead.
Out of the break, Bean got the hat trick with an unassisted 48th minute goal and then found the back of the net for the fourth time in the 70th minute to run the Golden Hawk lead to 6-0. He spoke with KCII Sports Thursday about his career night. “We got a lot of high pressure up on their defenders which allowed us to move the ball really well. We were able to get it to the corners then play it into the box, and then we capitalized. This is my first year going out since I played in elementary. Then you could just dribble the ball up the field and score. This is my first hat trick ever. The celebrations were pretty fun. That’s what we look forward to after we score. It was great to see, everyone got on the field, had good minutes and did their job.”
Collin Miller had the final two tallies for the Hawks, in the 75th minute it came on a Grady Gingerich assist, in the 78th minute it was a finish on an Adrian Sanchez assist. Defensively, Mid-Prairie posted their fourth consecutive shut out with Justice Jones turning in a three save clean sheet. With the win, the Hawks are 5-0 with a trip to Keokuk Friday night.
