It was the first home meet of the season for the Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ track team on Thursday and several KCII area squads braved the windy conditions.
Lone Tree had the top area finish placing third out of seven teams with 86 points and Danville won it all with 137. The freshman duo of Rylee Shield and Vivian Zaruba continue to impress with Shield winning the 400m (1:08) and Zaruba doing the same in the 3000m (14:56). Kasey Chown had the other event title for the Lions winning the high jump (4’6’’). Shield was also second in the 200m (28.70) and third in the 100m (13.50). Winfield-Mt. Union finished fifth with 66 points, WACO was sixth with 61, and Columbus was seventh with 48. WMU had gold medals come from Keetyn Townsley in the 100m hurdles (17.28), Jobey Malone in the shot put (35’3.25’’), and the shuttle hurdle relay of Townsley, Kayreanna Sharar, Josie Nelson, and Morgan Grelk (1:17). Zoey Dennler was a champ for the Warriors in the 400m hurdles (1:16) and the 4x200m relay (2:03) also won with this team consisting of McKenzie Vradenburg, Halle Shelman, Amy Moran, and Ellah Kissell. The Wildcats had second place showings from Lily Coil in the 400m hurdles (1:17) and long jump (13’7’’) and Libby White in the discus (89’10’’).
