Chalk up a Southeast Conference sweep for the Washington soccer teams on Thursday when they faced off with rival Fairfield and left town with a pair of victories.
The Demon boys made a trip to Fairfield (0-4) and registered a methodical 4-2 triumph. Bill De La Rosa got the scoring started on a free kick in the 13th minute and Kevin Marcelino found the back of the net a few minutes before intermission. A Trojan goal right before half made it 2-1, but insurance tallies by Fredy Aguilar and De La Rosa was all Washington needed. Spreading the wealth has been the name of the game with De La Rosa becoming the 10th Demon to score multiple times on the young season. Marcelino had a pair of assists in the win and Cole Anderson picked up 11 saves at the other end. Washington improved to 4-1. The girls had little trouble in the first game by getting back in the win column with a 9-2 victory over the Trojans (0-3). It was a 6-0 advantage at half and they continued to pour it on with Ava Turner rounding out the offensive barrage with a score in the 52nd minute. Greta Rothe recorded another multiple goal game. They moved to 5-1 on the spring.
Both squads face off with Keokuk Monday.
